Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat

About

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas invites yoga practitioners from across the globe to participate in its learning programs based on the tenets of Sivananda Yoga. Established by Swami Vishnudevananda in 1968, The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas provides an all-encompassing spiritual experience that promotes a healthy body and a peaceful mind.
Attendees follow a daily routine shaped by the Five Points of Yoga as developed and taught by Swami Vishnudevananda. Additionally, students and guests are immersed in the system of Integral yoga, or the Four Paths of Yoga as taught by Swami Sivananda. The Five Points of yoga involve: (1) proper exercise or the practice of yogic postures to improve flexibility, muscle strength, health and longevity; (2) proper breathing or the practice of yogic breathing techniques to promote concentration, focus and tranquility of mind; (3) proper relaxation or the practice of yogic deep relaxation to reduce stress and promote emotional stability; (4) proper (yogic vegetarian) diet for healthy digestion, purification and detoxification; (5) positive thinking and meditation for emotional maturity and spiritual growth.
The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas follows the Integral Yoga system that was developed by Swami Sivananda and implemented by Swami Vishnudevananda. This system encourages practitioners to combine in their daily life the four paths of yoga including karma yoga, bhakti yoga, raja yoga and jnana yoga (selfless service, devotion, meditation and wisdom). These four paths of yoga are the foundation of the practice at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas as well as at all Sivananda ashrams and centers. Swami Vishnudevananda based the daily routine on these four paths and five points in order to help attendees to develop a strong sense of inner peace. He believed that the only way to achieve world peace was to cultivate a sense of inner peace and to share that inner peace with others.
In addition to its mission of world peace, the Sivananda organization is also involved in many other initiatives to support communities and individuals who are struggling. Through their “Serve-All” grassroots programs, Sivananda ashrams have served as the center of altruistic initiatives set up by its staff and students. The community has contributed to medical and food assistance programs in numerous countries, including medical camps, prison outreach, yoga in schools, hospital and community centers as well as support for the socially disadvantaged.
The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas is involved in supporting the local community in the Bahamas by teaching yoga in schools, churches, hospitals and prisons. They have also organized a fundraising concert to raise donations for the hurricane Dorian relief efforts in Abaco and Grand Bahama. Additionally, they have organized trauma aware training in order to train local teachers and school counselors to support the children and youth following the devastation of hurricane Dorian. Sivananda ashrams and centers around the world continue to be involved in charitable activities and encourage their students and guests to be a part of it and to practice karma yoga, or the yoga of selfless service.
